St Mark's & All Saints' Churches, Anglican Parish of Hunters Hill

Choir

The Parish maintains a fine musical tradition. This includes its music in liturgy led by organ and choir as well as concerts. There has been a choir since the opening of All Saints’ in an unbroken tradition. There have also variably been choirs at St Mark’s Church, notably the boys’ choir in the 1960s and 1970s after the church’s relocation to Figtree Road.

For over a decade these choirs have been combined into the Choir of the Anglican Parish of Hunters Hill. This has when possible had a children’s section, but presently comprises a mixed adults’ choir of about twenty singers. This includes some choral scholars. The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings 7.30 to 9.00 pm, and sings Sundays at All Saints’ at 9:30 am except for the third Sunday of the month which is at St Mark’s at 8 am. The choir also sings at weddings and funerals as requested from time to time, and as part of the Parish concert series.

The Parish has always appointed Organist and Master of the Choristers in one appointment, and they have always directed the Choir. In 1992 the appointment was restyled Minister of Music to encompass liturgical and theological training as well as musical, and to acknowledge to pastoral aspect of leading a choir. It also acknowledges the ministry music has both within and beyond the liturgy.

The Choir has attracted composers to write and arrange music for it; notably by former Minister of Music Brett McKern and Mark Fisher.

The choir welcomes new members. Enquires may be made of the Minister of Music or the Choir Secretary via the Parish Office. Make an enquiry now.
